My life began in Brighton, MA where I was born (St. Elizabeth's Hospital) on August 2, 1945. I am the "only child" born to Winifred M. and Herbert J. Moran - hey, when you have perfection in the first child, why try for second? Don't ya just love my humility?
Sadly, my Father passed away from tuberculosis when I was five years old, and I was then raised by Mom and my Grandmother. My schooling began at St. Columbkille's in Brighton, and concluded at Marian High School, Framingham. We moved to Natick, MA after Mom remarried Joe Donovan in my sophomore year of school.
After High School I entered the seminary. At that time I was eager to serve the church -- and, admittedly, was naive and innocent.
The final year of seminary is the Deacon year. At the time (May 1970) it was referred to as "Deacon Intern" -- and I chose the pastoral approach. That meant I was in the parish from May 1970 to May 1971, returning to the seminary two days per week for classes. I was assigned to Sacred Heart Parish in Roslindale, MA. It was a HUGE parish -- approximately 4,500 families!
